TRAFFIC DELAYS NEXT SUNDAY: LEAVE EARLY FOR MASS

From the Collier County Sherrif’s office: On January 7th in Naples, a bicycle race will proceed from the Vanderbilt Beach turnaround at Gulf Shore Drive, east on Vanderbilt Beach Road to Collier Boulevard, south on Collier Boulevard to Golden Gate Boulevard, and east to the final turnaround point near 23rd Street Southwest.

Two Sunday races will have a significant impact on traffic and will cause substantial delays along all of Vanderbilt Beach Road and its intersecting streets as well as the intersection of Collier Boulevard and Golden Gate Boulevard from approximately 7:10 a.m. until approximately 11 a.m.

Detailed maps available on the race website.

If the race routes shown impact your travel to Mass, it will be a good idea to leave at least 15 minutes earlier than you usually do.

JANUARY 1: NOT AN OBLIGATION

In 2018, January 1st is not a Holy Day of Obligation, we will have Mass at 12:00 P.M. in Fort Myers and 5:15 P.M. at St. Agnes.

PLENARY INDULGENCE OPPORTUNITY: DEC. 31 & JAN. 1

“A plenary indulgence is granted to the Christian faithful who, in a church or in an oratory, are present [take part] in a recitation or solemn chant of: … the hymn Veni Creator … on the first day of the year, imploring divine assistance for the whole of the coming year… the Te Deum hymn, on the last day of the year, in thanksgiving to God for the favors received in the course of the entire year.”

After Mass on Dec. 31st and Jan. 1, we will recite these hymns. N.B. All the normal requirements for an indulgence apply.

EPIPHANY HOME BLESSINGS

We will be giving Epiphany home blessings beginning on the Vigil of the Epiphany, Jan. 5. Please sign up on the sheet at the back of the chapel if you wish to have your home blessed. We will try to bless every home, but if necessary, homes previously blessed can have their blessing renewed by the head of household with the family. (See the Rite for the Blessing of a Home booklet in the back of the chapel, or print your own here in English or Spanish.)

BLESSING OF EPIPHANY WATER ET CETERA

Before Mass in Naples at 4:15 P.M. on Friday, January 5th, we will bless Epiphany water. We will try to have enough water for everyone, but you are welcome to bring large containers of water as well as any chalk, incense, gold, and myrrh which you wish to have blessed.

VOLUNTEERS FOR ALTAR LINENS

We still need volunteers to help set up the altar before Mass during the week. This involves arriving ~30 minutes before Mass to set up the altar linens. Please sign up for a twice-a-month turn in the back of the chapel.

NO CHOIR PRACTICE, ACOLYTE TRAINING, ADULT CLASS

There will be no classes this coming Saturday, December 30. All activities will resume on January 13th.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS GROUP FORMATION

We are exploring the formation of our own KofC organization. To determine feasability and form, we need to know how many men (aged 18 years and up) are interested. Any Knight or man interested please contact Dave Grothaus at (703)772-3657 or [email protected].
