Corpus Christi Chapel

Welcome to Corpus Christi Chapel

Corpus Christi Chapel is a mission of Christ the King Parish in Sarasota, an apostolate established in 2007 by the Diocese of Venice at the service of those who desire a traditional parish life centered around the traditional Latin Liturgy. Since 2017, Corpus Christi Chapel was established to extend this full-time apostolate to the Naples-Fort Myers area of the diocese with the aim of constructing its own church.

We currently offer mass in local churches in the Naples-Fort Myers area at Corpus Christi Chapel in Naples, and Resurrection in Fort Myers. Please note that in the case of Fort Myers, we are a distinct community from the parish where we say mass, Therefore, if you have any questions, kindly direct them to us.

Corpus Christi Chapel is entrusted to the pastoral care of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, a Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Rite, erected by the Church in 1988, with the mission of preserving the traditions of the Latin Liturgy for the sanctification of souls. Learn more about our international Priestly Society here, and our North American Province here, as well as see beautiful pictures and read news from our various apostolates at the Missive blogspot. Those who wish to commit to support our work by prayer can read more about our Confraternity of St. Peter.

Sacramental Life

Mass schedule

Sunday Mass is offered at Corpus Christi Chapel at 7:30 am and 9:30 am; Resurrection at 12:30 pm. Daily Mass is offered at Corpus Christi Chapel at 8:30 am, Monday – Saturday, and Wednesday – Friday at 5:30 p.m. Additional masses are offered on Holy Days and Feast Days. Seasonal changes sometimes occur, especially the Sunday mass time at Resurrection as we share the same building for mass. Please visit our website to verify the current times and check the latest announcements for any special schedules.

Confessions

Confessions are heard every day before mass and during mass if both priests are present. On Sundays they are generally only heard before mass. Please try to avail yourself of the ample times during the week if you can, to leave the limited Sunday times to those who can only come on that day. We are also always available by appointment. A reference to a good examination of conscience can be found online here

Baptism

Registered members may present their children for baptism. The priests will assure that the parents know the basics of their faith and duties to raise a child of God. Letters of suitability are required for any godparents who are not members of the community. The Church states that children should be baptized as soon as possible, within a few weeks after birth.

First Holy Communion

As we currently have no regular classes, parents are required to make sure their child is prepared and to contact the priests when they are ready who will examine the candidates preparedness according to the St. Jospeh First Holy Communion Catechism. They should know the information contained therein and have their basic prayers memorized. Holy Communion should be received at the age of reason, generally around 7 years of age. Dates for reception are usually established individually for each child at present.

Confirmation

Confirmation is conferred on candidates in their second year of High School in the Diocese of Venice. Please contact us when the candidate is approaching this age (14-15). The priests will send out an email with the material they should know and study in advance and give supplementary classes for them and examine them to approve them for this sacrament.

Marriage prep

Please contact us as soon as possible if you are discerning marriage to begin the required marriage preparation The requirements of classes and paperwork must be finished before deciding on a date for the ceremony. It is also recommended that couples who are still discerning whether they want to get married contact the priests to help them with this discernment process.

Extreme Unction / Attention to the Sick and Homebound

Please contact the priests directly and at any time in case of a sacramental emergency.

Adult Converts

Private instruction is also given to adults who have not been confirmed who are thinking of entering the Catholic Church. Please contact the priests who will orient one in this process.

Groups

We strive to form a close-knit parish family to strengthen one another and grow in holiness. We currently have groups for Men, Women, Young Adults, Boys- St. Stephen Acolyte Guild, and Girls- Maidens of Mary that meet monthly or more often. Please sign up for the groups to receive more information about them.

Sermons/Catechesis

The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter has St. Thomas Aquinas as the patron of its studies and intellectual formation whose perennial teachings it strives to communicate through sermons and catechetical instruction. Sunday sermons are generally uploaded to our website where one can listen to them. Documents are often attached for further study on different aspects of our faith.

Recommended resources to study one’s faith include amongst many others:

Some classics of Spirituality that we highly recommend are:

Donate

The Church’s mission depends on you and your support. Your support makes possible our traditional parish life and all of its future growth.

The easiest way to give regularly is online at our secure site. There one can set up reoccurring or one-time donations.

We also print envelopes every year for those who want them. If you prefer to use envelopes in the meantime, before the yearly printing in December, please pick up a box of blank envelopes in the back of church and put your registration number on it. Donations given with your number or in your name by check are recorded in our system and end of year statements are given for your tax purposes.

We recommend that any larger donations or the larger portion of your regular donations at this time be directed to our building fund, 100% of which goes to the stated purpose of building our future parish home.

Read more about our building project here.

New to the Latin Mass?

Most of our members have come to know this traditional form of the Mass for the first time via our apostolate.  We recommend obtaining one’s own missal, which will serve for all masses every year. We follow the typical edition of the Roman Missal of 1962. An older missal will also generally suffice to follow all masses as very few changes, save the addition of new saints, were made over the last four centuries

Some of the most popular hand missals amongst the many available include the Baronius Press and Angelus Press editions. These and others are often on sale at the back of our masses the proceeds of which support our apostolate.

An online missal is also available linked at the bottom of the FSSP livemass website where live and recorded transmissions of our latin mass apostolates can be found

Religious Goods

Missals, traditional catholic books, handmade veils, rosaries, medals, etc. are often sold in the back of the church at our Sunday masses. All proceeds benefit our community projects. Please contact us if you have any specific inquiries.

News

Follow our online bulletin for any new announcement, which may include special mass times, seasonal changes, weekly, monthly events and more. Subscribe to receive it via email every Friday morning, along with any other group you wish to receive announcements from.

Mass Intentions

Given the growth of our community, mass requests will initially be limited to 5 per household. In addition to the general public mass requests other urgent requests (recent death, critical injury, crisis, etc.) may be submitted directly to our priests if they have any availability in public or private masses.

Public mass intentions are limited to registered and active members of Corpus Christi Chapel. We offer daily masses (Mon - Sat) at 8:30 am with an additional mass (Wed-Fri) at 5:30 pm. On Sundays, we have two masses available at Corpus Christi Chapel in Naples, at 7:30 am and 9:30 am, and one mass at Resurrection in Fort Myers, at 12:30 pm.

To request a Mass Intention, kindly visit our Corpus Christi Chapel website.
