Under the typical conditions (sacramental communion, confession 3 weeks before or after, and prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father), the recitation of
the "Prayer before a Crucifix" gains a plenary
indulgence on Fridays during Lent.
"Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus, while before Thy face I humbly kneel and, with burning soul, pray and beseech Thee to fix deep in my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope and charity; true contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment. While I contemplate, with great love and tender pity, Thy five most precious wounds, pondering over them within me and calling to mind the words which David, Thy prophet, said of Thee, my Jesus: They have pierced My hands and My feet, they have numbered all My bones. Amen."
The prayer can be found in the red misallette at Mass on pg. 65
Accompany our Lord along his Way of the Cross every Friday in Lent after the 5:15PM Mass at St. Agnes, beginning this Friday, March 8th. Booklets will be provided and also for sale. A plenary indulgence, under the normal conditions, can be gained by this holy exercise where properly erected.
Mass in Naples (St. Agnes) on Ash Wednesday will be at 7:00 A.M. and 5:30 P.M. (sung).
Mass in Fort Myers (Resurrection) will be at 12:15 P.M.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals/snacks that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. If one wishes to freely observe the older discipline in force in 1962 (and thus not currently obligatory), one may see those rules at https://materdeiparish.com/laws-days-abstinence-penance-fast/
Avoid occasions of sin and offenses to God by editing what you watch via VidAngel, a service which allows one to watch movies or shows excluding profanity, indecent scenes, etc. It can be linked to entertainment providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. https://www.vidangel.com/browse
